Business

• I’m building the Ruby for Mac website with Bridgetown and Tailwind UI. That saved me a lot of time because I’m not very good at design/CSS. The problem is that some of the Tailwind components are huge, and it’s hard to find where in the HTML you need to edit the text.

• To make this easier, I created YAML data files and used Liquid to simplify and loop through the HTML bits. Now, to make changes, I just need to go to the YAML files, which makes it much easier to work with.

• One issue I ran into is that I named one of the attributes in the YAML rows:, which made the parser ignore all attributes before that. I didn’t look into it but I assumed it must be a reserved word, so I just renamed it and everything worked.

• I love that Bridgetown comes with a console command, so you can inspect things, which makes it easier to debug.

• Had a nice office hours chat with one of my readers about being self-taught, Rails, and coding to do some good in the world. It was only after the chat that I remembered Ruby for Good, and I suggested they sign up for their Slack.

• I received 4 logos from the person I hired on Fiverr. Sadly, I didn’t like any of them, but the package I bought comes with unlimited revisions, so I suggested something more specific for them to try.

• Someone who tried my script said it didn’t work on their M1 Mini, and they said they had previously tried installing Ruby. They asked if my script can clean everything up and reinstall everything. I said yes, but only the premium script. When it launches (hopefully end of January/early February), it will cost $37, but since they’re on my list, they can get it for $17.

• Right now, I’m having people buy the script by booking a Zoom session with me so we can test the script together, and I can take notes to make it better. They booked a session for tomorrow.
